Okinawa Day Outing

On saturday at smithfields market they were having a event celebrating Okinawa, so me, Luyba and Cynthia decided to meet up at this event. Unfortunately for me I was working that day and it was 27 C, so you can imagine how I was feeling when I was making my was to Liverpool St Station, in yukata. All I can say is thank god someone invented baby wipes.
oops forgot to describe what i was wearing, it was a shibori yukata that I got from a lot on YJA and a white hanhaba obi with a bangasa motif. I don't have any pictures but Lyuba's husband took some so if you want to see what we were wearing check her blog (strawberry kimono). I don't have a picture of the obi but I do of the yukata.

Back to the story. I got to the market around 2pm and found out I'd just missed Cynthia (damn) and saw that the festival was small. 7 stalls and a stage small. Took a look and decided to leave and get something to eat. So me, Luyba and her hub go to a restaurant called Taro near Leicester Sq, had a good chat then went to Carnaby St to go check out a shoe shop. Afterwards we went to Haagen-dazs and got some ice cream and a funny thing happened. As we were queing up one of the waitress came up to us and started to talk to tell about how pretty we looked, she was pretty excited (something I'm not accustomed to :P) and she mentioned she was in the kimono club in Barcelona! (I've been following their club for ages on flickr and their blogs) but had to give it up when she came to the UK. I'm always on the look out for new members for our kimono club so when she said she was in the kimono club in Barcelona, ding! ding!
Anyway the waitress name is Marina and Luyba gave her her business card and told her to contact her, I hope she does I got a good vibe off her :) So after that we had another good chat (Luyba's husband is a funny guy!) and then went home. The next day I was limping from walking around so much! Luckly it was the England vs Germany match so there wasn't much to do at work and that's it for Okinawa Day outing.
On a side note, I got mentioned on Minna No Kimono about the fabric tatoushi. I'm quite pleased :)
Now on to non kimono related stuff, my eye surgery date is drawing nearer and I'm shitting myself, really shitting. I'm still going to go through with it, but this panic is staring to grow and I'm not liking it, not one bit. So next time you'll hear from me is after the surgery and hopefully I will have 20/20 vsion.

I met the organiser of the Okinawa event at my meeting in London. Very nice man. We should really get our kimono club organised. Make it official I mean. I think we'll find some doors opening for us if we do this. I had a really exciting and productive meeting yesterday with the Japan Society and Japan Foundation. Lots of good events coming up.

I agree April, we should really get off our butts and get TMN off the ground. Would you still be free in August to do Amecon? That question goes to you to Luyba & Isla.

I think I can do the Sat. or the Sun. I can't stay the whole weekend as Kevin is out of town and I need to take care of the doggies.
