Last week I was watching of my favourite youtube channels 'Cooking With Dog'.....it's not what you think. It's a show dedicated to japanese cooking, the host is Francis, a poodle hence the title. Anyway the lastest recipe s/he posted was nikuman (chinese style steamed bun), I LOVE steamed bun so I thought I would give this a go. Now I have a confession to make, the last time (or anytime) I tried to make any bread recipe it's either come out burnt, hard, raw or all of the above. However I'm a sucker for pain so I decided to give it another shot, hell I had a video clip showing me what to do, where could I go wrong.
So off to the chinese supermarket I go in the snow and ice, buy the ingredients, go home on the bus which nearly drives into a traffic light post due to the icy roads!, making the filling & bread dough and finally cooking them. Here are various photos of the nikuman made.
All I can say is DAMN! I have never cooked anything in my life I even liked, but these, these little buns of goodness were wonderful (tho a bit salty, but that's my fault). The bread was soft and airy, the filling was moist, everything was (nearly) perfect. I whole heartedly recommend this recipe :)
Ooh nearly forgot, as you can see my background has changed, I'm in the process of making my blog more nicer (is that even a word?). So there will be a few changes around here as I learn how to change the layout.
