My First Go At Shibori

So, I've decided to have a proper clean out of my room, mainly because I couldn't open my door to get in! Anyway in the process of cleaning up I found two WIP (work in progress) that I had started over a year ago. From what I remember last year I thought I would try my hand at shibori. Now if you don't know what shibori is, it's essentially tie dyeing but done in a way only the japanese could come up with! (think intricate and time comsuming) Wiki it if you really want to see genuine examples. Anyway I thought I would try and make a shibori obiage so I brought some silk scarfs and with the help of a book called Shibori: The Inventive Art of Japanese Shaped Resist Dyeing by Yoshiko Wada (which shows you the techinques used) I started to tie the scarf up. Now I can't actually remember why I did two different kinds of shibori but I did. I used normal poly cotton thread to do the tyeing and I do remember thinking this wouldn't work, but I dyed it anyway, and this is the result.

I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out, especially with the sides of the scarf. The only problem I had with the shibori was undoing the threads, It took me a few hours to untie the damn things!
